Matua Lelei is our senior social group, we provide fun activities, morning tea and companionship for matua in our community. Transport can be arranged, all free of charge.

Matua (Vagahau Niue) Lelei (Samoan) prioritizes the overall wellness of our elders.

Matua Lelei was established four years ago by request of one of our Pasifika matua and is now a flourishing service that provides:

  • A safe space for Pasifika elders to share their stories and cultures with each other.
  • A time for our elders to socialize with others outside of their family homes.
  • Fun activities and events that will stimulate cognition.
  • Opportunities for continued leadership.
Health check ups provided by our registered nurses.
  • Free transportation to and from the venue if necessary.

AvaNiu Pasifika recognises that our Pasifika elders often go through social cultural isolation – they are the backbones of our households and the best teachers of culture and discipline but often become homebodies. Matua Lelei provides our elders with a safe space to socialize with others and engage in fun activities outside of their homes.

This service has allowed AvaNiu Pasifika to build a strong relationship with our elders and we are immensely grateful for their willingness to share their knowledge and their continuous support.
